OLBG HORSE RACING TIPS - FREE
Overview
OLBG (Online Betting Guide) is now one of the largest betting communities in the world. It’s covers everything from tips, odds, results, competitions, free bets and even a dedicated fans forum. The site has gone to become one of the fastest growing betting sites in recent times and is now thought of as one of the more authoritative betting sites in the industry. |
To accompany their site, OLBG has gone on to create a free an on a range of smartphone devices which includes tips from a series of sports and betting markets; one of these just so happens to be horse racing. Whilst the app ranges with its sports, it’s just the horse racing section that we will be interested for this review.
Features
The homepage basically sends you straight into the latest tips from the app. This will range between sports and also between the time of day you venture onto the app. What they try to do is offer the tips from up and coming markets that are about to take place; usually within the next couple of hours or so. The sport will be labelled with a small image (a horse’s head for horse racing) before the bet and the odds are shown for that specific tip.
At the bottom of the app you can select horse racing to find a more dedicated number of races to choose from. From here a list of meetings that include tips will be shown and you can select between each meeting. From here it’s just a matter of select which race (time) you want to view from that meeting before being thrown into that market.

Once your race has been selected you can then see a list of all the horses racing and more importantly, their odds and the amount of ‘tipsters’ backing that horse. This is displayed in decimals for the odds and as a percentage for the number of tipsters.
Clicking on your horse brings you more information again. This is a detailed look at who and why certain people are backing this horse. The page includes information on the race, but also a brief look from a number of tipsters as to why they have selected this horse. They also state whether to back it each way or simply to win, which is a good addition, especially for longer priced horses. As well as that, you can also see which tipsters have chosen to lay a certain horse, which is a brilliant concept with the availability of betting exchanges for all punters these days. Each tip is backed up with a sound argument – most of the time – and come from people within the industry, so you can be assured they are a reliable source. |
The tipster’s button at the top of the screen takes you into a more detailed look as to how many people are backing each result. The win, each way and lay markets are shown, along with a number for each. This section includes a Pro tipsters section, which we assume is the top three firing tipsters on the app at that time. Whilst the whole section is a nice touch, it’s a little confusing to say the least. There’s a lot numbers and acronyms on there, of which some we aren’t sure of, so basically makes little sense. Most can be worked out using a little common sense, but some are confusing to say the least and with no key to refer back to, will make it a waste of time for some punters.

You can also use the share button from the app to send your pick via Facebook or Twitter and via email if you wish. Unfortunately though there is no way to go straight to a bookmaker and place your bet. Whilst many people will use different bookmakers anyway so this won’t be of massive concern to some, it would have been great if they could have linked it to say the best odds from a pick of five of the top bookmakers and a link to go straight there. As it is, it means you have to use the app as a tipster app rather than any additional outside betting features that would of set the app off nicely.
Verdict
The OLBG betting tips app does exactly what it say on the tin; offers betting tips for a wide range of sports. The app is a great way to find picks from a number of race meetings but also can be used to either back up our initial thoughts on a horse or to see what’s been recommended to bet on. We love the fact that it offers laying opportunities as well as backing and each way bets.
It does lack some additional features to send it to the next level such as integrated betting and even more information the horses to form your own opinion. But if you are after a look at what some of the industry experts are saying about each horse, then you won’t go far wrong with the OBLG tips app.
